Load Displacement
Load Displacement Generation refers to electricity generation installed behind the customer’s meter that is used directly on-site to reduce electricity consumption or demand from the grid. This type of generation may use either renewable or non-renewable energy sources and is intended solely to meet the energy needs of the facility where it is installed.
How do I get started?
- Determine the appropriate system size based on your energy needs. Review your historical electricity bills to better understand your consumption patterns and help size the generation system appropriately.
- Research available load displacement technologies and options. Energy consultants, industry associations, technical advisors, and equipment suppliers can provide valuable information and support.
- Review the connection process. The connection requirements for load displacement projects are similar to those for net metering projects, except that a bi-directional meter is not required because the system is not intended to export electricity to the grid. Please refer to the Distributed Energy Resources page for details.
- Submit your application. Once you have determined the appropriate system size, complete the applicable application form and submit it to the Engineering Team using the webform located on the Distributed Energy Resources page.
