Backup Generators Less Than 50 kW

For backup generators less than 50 kW whose sole purpose is to supply facility loads during utility outages, no application process or forms are required by ORPC. However, an Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) inspection is still required.

If a service disconnection is required for the installation, please submit a service request through the ORPC website: Service Request | ORPC.

Backup Generators 50 kW or Greater

For emergency backup generators rated at 50 kW or greater whose sole purpose is to supply facility loads during utility outages, a Backup Generator Declaration Form must be completed and submitted to ORPC.

Declaring a generator as emergency backup only may reduce requirements related to SCADA monitoring, settlement charges, and connection agreements.

Please note that this form is not intended for generators that may be used for load displacement purposes, including global adjustment curtailment or peak shaving activities.

Completed forms should be submitted to: [email protected]
