Your Choice

While electricity will always be delivered to you by Ottawa River Power Corporation, you have three options in purchasing the electricity that you use:

  • Regulated Price Plan

Under the RPP, you are charged a regulated price per kWh by Ottawa River Power.  ORPC does not generate any profit on the electricity it purchases for you, the customer.  The price that ORPC pays for the electricity is set by the Ontario Energy Board.  This price remains stable for a specific period of time.  The OEB determines this price, based on a forecast and does not necessarily reflect what has been paid to generators.

  • Spot Market Pricing

This is available to those customers who have an interval meters.  The customer pays the actual wholesale market price for their electricity.  These prices vary every hour and can be volatile.

  • Electricity Retailer

With a retailer, the customer signs a contract to pay the agreed upon price per kWh.  The price that the customer agrees upon and pays is usually guaranteed for a number of years.

Regardless of which option is chosen, the choice only affects the 'Electricity' portion of your bill.  If you choose to switch to a retailer, the other items on your bill are still charged by Ottawa River Power Corporation.  Since ORPC operates and maintains the hydro wires that deliver the electricity, ORPC will continue to deliver electricity to you and charge amounts for the delivery, regulatory and debt retirement charge lines on your bill.
