Public Notice To Electricity Users

Retailers are coming to sell you electricity

Before you sign a contract with an electricity retailer, you should consider the following:

·You are under no obligation to sign with anyone.

·Does the retailer have a retail license from the Ontario Energy Board and can they provide proof?  Ask to see it and verify that it is valid for our area.

·What is the duration of the contract?  Is there an escape clause?

·What obligations and commitments are required for you and the retailer under the contract?

·From what sources will the retailer be purchasing energy generation?

·Is this retailer concerned about environmentally-friendly sources of energy (other than fossil fuels)?

·What is the price of the electricity being offered and how does this compare to your existing price?

·Will the price change in the future?  When? How much?

·How are your savings calculated?  Ask for details.

·Make certain you can switch back to Ottawa River Power Corporation without a penalty.

When the market opens, the cost of the commodity (electricity) will be listed separately on your bill.  This is only a portion of the hydro bill.  In addition to this charge, there will be several other charges related to providing electricity to your home.  The retailer may only be quoting on the commodity
